Paul Kealy provides his Placepot perm for Sandown on Sunday
The opening leg (1.15) of the Sandown Placepot on Coral-Eclipse day is tricky as none of the juveniles has come close to achieving the level normally associated with this Listed contest.
That’s obviously because we started really late, but there’s nowhere near as much between the favourite (best RPR 86 on second start) and some of the others.
, for instance, ran to 77 on his debut (10lb higher than the jolly did on hers), when he won well. With improvement highly likely and the drop in trip not a worry, he is worth putting in too.
Liberty Beach was arguably at her most impressive as a juvenile when winning the opener on this card last year and she looks banker material in the next (1.50). I can’t see why the King’s Stand third isn’t favourite.
Dashing Willoughby made all on his return to action and might be hard to pass in the staying contest (2.25).
Cross Counter does have the best form, but he had a hard race in the Gold Cup and this track does suit those going from the front.
Montathamand Acquittedare my two against the field in the following mile handicap.
The former is a strong traveller and may find this track more to his liking than Dark Vision, who beat him in the Hunt Cup last time out, while Acquitted has to get another chance on the form of his second to Palace Pier at Newcastle.
I’ve no idea what happened at Ascot (tailed off), but he’s out quick enough to think it wasn’t serious.
John Gosden says Enableneeds the run in the Eclipse (3.35), but he said the same last year and she won, and she will be hard to kick out of the first two.
The last (4.05) is hard and I’ll go with Godolphin pair Magny Cours and Spotify. Both ran career-bests when last seen.
