Owl has wings clipped close home
There was a dramatic finish to the mares' maiden hurdle at Southwell. Favourite Miss Night Owl looked home and hosed from some way out and nearly £4,700 was traded on her at 1.01 on Betfair. However, she began to tire approaching the final flight and 40-1 shot Ruby Yeats, who was being shoved along halfway down the back straight on the final circuit, stayed on dourly to land the spoils going away after £16 was matched on her at 1,000.
Tanarpino, who traded at 1.05 in the novice handicap chase at Carlisle, didn't get up the hill and dropped to third close home, with long-time leader Palm Grey seeing it out best after being matched at 50.
Compadre was backed at a low-looking 1.07 in the 2m1f novice hurdle at Carlisle. Never in front, he was readily left behind on the run-in by Testify.
