Since 2012 there have been 66-1, 50-1 and 25-1 winners of the Cesarewitch and Bascule (25-1) can add his name to the list of big-priced winners of the famous handicap.

It is still early days for the four-year-old, who has shaped well without winning in three starts this year. Latterly, he was fifth in the Cesarewitch Trial, keeping on well to the line off a 2lb lower mark.

The cheekpieces should help eek out further improvement and the better surface will also play to his strengths. If he can match the level of form that saw him finish an unlucky seventh in the Summer Handicap at Glorious Goodwood, he seems certain to go close.
