Owen bids to follow up 20-1 Saturday winner with three ITV selections at York

Nomadic Empire
1.50 York
1pt each-way with firms paying seven places

Gis A Sub
1.50 York
1pt each-way with firms paying seven places

There are some fascinating horses towards the bottom of the market in this devilishly competitive sprint and with seven places on offer, I'm going to nominate two in this contest.

The first is Nomadic Empire (33-1), who has been a tricky horse to follow this term. His recent starts at Ascot and York have been disappointing, but he is now 4lb below his last winning mark. The last time he was fitted with new headgear, he finished a narrow second off 2lb higher, and his biggest RPRs have both come at this venue in this grade.

Another in first time headgear needing a revival is Gis A Sub (33-1), who finished second in last year's Gimcrack over slightly further. He has looked a shade regressive this term, but his handicap mark has tumbled as a result and he has been gelded since we last saw him.

He is drawn where the pace is, which is a big positive for him, and the first-time cheekpieces should give him a lift. If that does prove to be the case, a mark of 99 will not be enough to stop him going close.

Oviedo
2.25 York
1pt each-way

I can understand why Local Dynasty is favourite for this year's Acomb, as he was certainly impressive on debut, but Oviedo (14-1) was equally stylish and I think he has an excellent each-way chance.

He travelled powerfully into contention on his Doncaster debut and quickly settled the race under considerate handling from Kevin Stott, defeating a subsequent winner who had already posted a good level of form previously.

He will have learned plenty from that experience and Doncaster shares similar characteristics to York, which can help. With a flat three places on offer, he is excellent value.
