Our top tipster provides his Tote Placepot perm for King George Day at Kempton

Credit: Edward Whitaker

Unless there are a few upsets that I'm failing to predict, the Kempton Placepot won't be setting any payout records, so a small perm looks the way to go for those who like to partake in the most popular Tote bet.

Third Time Lucki (12.40) would have won at Cheltenham last time if the field hadn't ignored the front-runner, but he ran clean away from the rest and is hard to oppose in leg one.

Dan Skelton could be the man to follow in the early races as his favourite Alnadam looks solid in the next (1.15). He won without much fuss at Sandown, largely jumped well and something is going to have to improve to beat him.

Shan Blue is the best jumper out of the three market leaders in leg three (1.50), although I'm always against banking on one runner in a novice chase. Enrilo may not boast the hurdles class of some, but the Paul Nicholls-trained novice can certainly jump, so he's the back-up.

Epatante should be nearer 1-4 than 4-11 for the Christmas Hurdle (2.25) and is impossible to oppose, and after that it's the King George (3.00), in which Clan Des Obeaux is obviously the safest play in his hat-trick bid.

If you've got that far with the perm then you won't be winning much, so there's no point going mad in the final leg (3.35).

It's a wide-open contest, but Whatsupwithyou ran a cracker when second at Cheltenham last time and Distingo is very well handicapped on old form, as well as shaping nicely from off the pace when upped to 3m here last month. He ultimately didn't quite stay, so this trip could be perfect.
