The John Size-trained Beat The Clock can emerge as the glittering star of a cracking ten-race card at Sha Tin by finally lifting the Group 1 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup (7.20).

This ultra-consistent six-year-old was beaten in the past two runnings of the 7f feature by Beauty Generation, who was in his pomp, taking all before him as Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year.

But times have changed and Beat The Clock comes here off the back of two scintillating Group 1 victories, while Beauty Generation has not won since October and has been beaten in his last four starts.

To add tactical spice, Jamie Spencer rides front-running Ka Ying Star for the first time, and from the widest draw in stall seven he should aim to pressure Beauty Generation, whose jockey Zac Purton would prefer an uncontested lead.

It should all fall into place for Beat The Clock, who can enjoy the run of the race in behind. His stablemate Hot King Prawn also has a chance though he has questions to answer over the trip.

Beat The Clock may have to share some of the limelight with the outstanding Exultant, whose pull in the weights makes him a good thing to notch back-to-back wins in the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup (6.15).

Caspar Fownes has made no secret of his high regard for Snap Fit, who attempts his fourth win from six starts in the 6f handicap sprint (7.50).

It is typical of Fownes that he gave the five-year-old a thorough grounding on the tight Happy Valley circuit before taking him to a more spacious track. This is his first run at Sha Tin, and from the inside gate he should oblige.

Richard Gibson is another trainer who has uncovered an exciting, fresh talent in his yard. Wellington was so impressive on his debut three weeks ago that he can comfortably take the step up in class in the 6f handicap (8.25), despite an awkward draw. To counter that, he has a relative feather weight of 8st 4lb.
