Oasis flatters to deceive behind Fire

Oasis Fantasy hasn’t won anywhere near the number of races he should given his ability, and another one went begging in the 1m2f handicap at Goodwood. After trading at 1.18 on Betfair, his run petered out behind Fire Fighting.

There was a desperate finish to the 1m2f handicap at Yarmouth, where Monna Valley was backed down to 1.04 before hanging and allowing favourite We’ll Shake Hands (40) to rally and regain the lead on the line.

Martin Harley, who was on Monna Valley, gained swift compensation by taking the following 1m2f handicap on Doctor Sardonicus. It was another close shave, though, with fast-finishing Elronaq trading at 1.21.

Qewy’s late burst in the 1m6f handicap at Goodwood just fell short. He was backed down to 1.08.

Elidor’s victory at 16-1 in the 1m6f handicap at Goodwood improved Silvestre de Sousa to 7-19 when riding for Mick Channon in the last five seasons (£30 profit to a £1 level stake).
