Nicholls newcomer knows what's required

David Nicholls isn't renowned for having two-year-old winners and Bay Station, his first juvenile runner of the season, was sent off at 33-1 for the fillies' maiden at Beverley. However, she clearly new her job, staying on strongly to get up late after trading at 250 in running on Betfair. Runner-up Queen In Waiting was backed at 1.14.

Carducci could never quite shake off Gravity Wave in the first division of the maiden auction at Salisbury and, despite being done at 1.03, she was worn down on the line. The winner was matched at 40.

The post looked as though it would never come for Dubka in the 1m4f handicap at Salisbury, but Perestroika's (1.29) late burst fell agonisingly short and Sir Michael Stoute's filly hung on to complete her hat-trick by a short-head.
