Newmarket Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his perm for the Group 1 meeting

It's not often that a Saturday Group 1 fixture kicks off with a maiden but it can happen at Newmarket and the opener (1.10) doesn't look like it will be an easy race to survive.

Wolsey made a promising debut when second behind the well-regarded Goldspur at Sandown and must be included. The Charlie Appleby-trained newcomer Al Nafir is another big player.

Achelois looks one of the best bets on the card and is a banker in the 1m2f handicap (1.45).

The 6f sales race (2.20) is wide open and coverage will be needed. Let's take two against the field with the tough and genuine Adaay In Asia and all-weather winner Ernie's Valentine.

Saffron Beach is my idea of the winner of the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes (2.55) but Shale can also go well.

There isn't much form to go on in the 7f maiden (3.30) and those who have run don't set a fearsome standard. The newcomers First Officer and Al Mubhir make the most appeal.

Crema Inglesa was impressive on soft ground at Sandown last month and looks open to improvement now she steps up in trip. She is a banker in the 1m4f handicap (4.05).
