Newmarket Placepot picks: Paul Kealy has two bankers for day two
You normally need a bit of guesswork when it comes to juvenile maidens, but Charlie Appleby tends to run some good ones in the opening event at Newmarket (1.15). The last time he didn't have at least one runner in the first three was 2014 (fourth), so his and are my two for the Placepot.
The first handicap on the card (1.50) is competitive, but shaped well enough when eighth in the Britannia given he is bred for much further, while I've got to give another chance to , for whom nothing went right at Epsom.
The layers make the next (2.25) between three of the six, but I was impressed with the way picked up when scoring here last month and will be disappointed if she doesn't make the first two.
Candleford might well have the class to overcome a 13lb rise in the next (3.00), but this is a quality heat and I'm pretty sure we are yet to see the best of .
He and , who looks ready for another crack at further, are my two against the field.
Inspiralfaces a straightforward task in the fifth (3.35), and that just leaves the 7f handicap, in which main fancy goes in with , who remains well treated on last season's form and has run two excellent races recently.
