Newbury Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with his essential Tote advice

There are some interesting juvenile races at Newbury and the first division of the 6f maiden (1.07) won’t be easy to negotiate in the Placepot. Lajooje made a promising debut when second at Ffos Las and is the solid option, but likely improver Tafreej is also worth including.

Division two (1.43) is another wide-open race. Skysail heads those with form after a good second on his debut at Windsor and Paspaley could also build on his first run at Newcastle.

Lots of unraced fillies line up in the 7f conditions race (2.18), but it might be worth playing safe with those who have form. Peony and Wyoming are clear picks on Racing Post Ratings.

Just two places will be on offer in the 7f nursery (2.53) but The Parent makes plenty of appeal. He won well at Goodwood last time and Richard Hannon has a good record in this.

The winner will be needed in the mile conditions race (3.28) and Highbank fits the bill. He looked smart when bolting up at Newmarket on his debut and Ryan Moore is booked to ride.

Only seven are declared for the feature 7f Listed race (4.03) and, with two places available, it’s worth opposing Sacred with the consistent Tacarib Bay. Saleymm is the best alternative.
