Newbury Placepot picks: Paul Kealy goes with an eight-line perm on Saturday

With largely small fields or short-priced favourites the Newbury Placepot is unlikely to break any records, so it will be a small perm for me at the day's main meeting.

Richard Hannon has won the opener (1.15) three times in the past four runnings, and in what looks a tight heat I'll go with his winner and well-bred newcomer .

is the form horse in the Carnarvon (1.50), but softening ground might be against him. That said, the next few in the betting aren't exactly bombproof on that score, and he does have a fair form edge, so he'll do.

, so impressive here last time, is the safer option in the next (2.25) even though Logician is fully entitled to beat him at the weights, while in the London Gold Cup (3.00) I'm happy enough to go with the pair I've backed already, and .

looks head and shoulders above the rest in the Lockinge (3.35), and that leaves only the Fillies' Trial (4.10) to work out.

This is one of the harder races as plenty have Oaks and Ribblesdale entries, but William Haggas has put in a stack of Group 1s, which suggests extra confidence in her ability.

She goes in with , who was very green first time and can only improve.
