Newbury Placepot picks: Graeme Rodway with his selections on Super Saturday

There aren’t many runners at Newbury, but the Placepot may pay well with a surprise or two.

However, I don’t expect there to be an upset in the 2m7½f novice handicap chase (1.15) because Bravemansgame is one of the most exciting novice chasers in Britain. He should win here.

The 3m handicap hurdle (1.50) is a bit more open. The Brimming Water has been fitted with a tongue-strap and might see out this trip better than last time. But it’s also worth including the impressive last-time-out Huntingdon winner Risk And Roll, who could be well treated.

The Denman Chase (2.25) is tricky. It might be worth opposing Clan Des Obeaux, and Royale Pagaille and Eldorado Allen appeal the most.

The winner will be needed in the Game Spirit (3.00) and Sceau Royal looks the most likely. However, it’s also worth putting in the improving Funambule Sivola for Venetia Williams.

The Betfair Hurdle (3.35) is the feature handicap of the day and I’ll be disappointed if Jetoile doesn’t run well after his second in the Tolworth at Sandown. Broomfield Burg is next best.

Nicky Henderson unleashes another potential star novice hurdler in the shape of King Ottokar in the 2m½f novice hurdle (4.10) and he goes in along with the form horse, Great Heart’Jac.
