Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Monday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Down Royal

3.15:Encosta

Operatic Artist seems the pick of the O'Brien runners. ENCOSTA (nap) seems the pick of the Meade runners and, likely facing nothing rated 90 this time, should win.
Johnny Ward

Ffos Las

3.10: Royal Thunder

Preference is for the unexposed 3yo ROYAL THUNDER (nap), who looks interesting back down in distance. Wisper, who holds solid claims, is second choice ahead of Miss Down Under then Snapcracklepop.
Steve Boow

Hamilton

2.48: Spanish

The William Haggas-trained SPANISH (nap) won in good style in a maiden at Kempton (AW) this month and is taken to continue her progressive ways and follow up on this handicap debut. Shampion retains potential for Roger Varian but her handicap debut flop at York is disconcerting and the main threat to the selection could come from Golden Melody now back down in trip. Sound Of Iona is an interesting contender now going beyond 7f for the first time.
Ben Hutton

Newcastle

8.00: Canagat

There should be big runs in Tea Garden (second choice), Thaayer, Western Melody and Sequeira Lady but CANAGAT (nap) is a very interesting contender on his first run for David O'Meara. He is on a long losing run but he is 2-2 at this track and the addition of a hood could help calm his free-going ways. This is his first crack at 0-55 company and he could have too much class for his rivals.
Paul Smith

Newton Abbot

2.18: Wild Wilbur

Present Storm quickened clear with the winner on the run-in at Uttoxeter this month and might still be well handicapped after her latest 4lb rise. However, WILD WILBUR (nap) looks fortunate to be 1lb lower than when second at Plumpton in the spring, given he was 14 lengths ahead of the third and that the bang-in-form winner was on the second leg of a four-timer. Furthermore, Emma Lavelle's runner is still unexposed after only five starts.
Chris Wilson

Roscommon

3.35: Hascoeur Clermont

There may be even better to come from the improving HASCOEUR CLERMONT (nap) who has youth on his side relative to the in-form Oskar High. Shannon Gray has been running consistently and should be thereabouts. The well-related Robindale, with cheekpieces fitted, is potentially interesting in her first handicap.
Alan Sweetman
