Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's six meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Cheltenham

7.35: Shantou Flyer

Very few of these have history at this distance. Law Of Gold has strong claims on his form from last spring including a fair-and-square defeat of Shantou Flyer, and he could be forgiven heavy defeats in his previous two visits to Cheltenham when good to soft ground would have on the slow side for him. However, Shantou Flyer has run some of his best races here and that's a strong selling point. Give Me A Copper and Captain Drake also need respecting, though conditions are a worry for the latter.
Alistair Jones

Goodwood

3.50: Chipstead

Twilight Madness is an upwardly mobile sprinter and should be winning more races this year but Chipstead has improved significantly since the pair met at Newmarket last summer and can gain his revenge after a promising reappearance. The Lamplighter goes well at Goodwood and also has possibilities if he's fit after an absence.
Richard O'Brien

Newcastle

7.55: Main Target

Redzone was on a roll when last seen and he could progress further this year. Unashamed comes here on the back of two solid turf runs, while Ginato (second choice) will appreciate coming back here and Spice Store caught the eye at Thirsk. There are strong grounds for expecting better from Main Target today though and he can show the benefit of a recent gelding operation.

Newmarket

4.45: Carolus Magnus

The unexposed Roger Varian-trained Legend Of Dubai could go well on his return from another absence but preference is for Carolus Magnus, who won in good style over course-and-distance last September and reappeared with a solid run here two weeks ago. Dingle and Menai Bridge have been in good form on all-weather.
Ben Hutton

Punchestown

6.00: State Man

Only six runners but a cracking contest. Flame Bearer looks well worthy of a step up to Grade 1 level, while Three Stripe Life deservedly earned a bracket at this level at Aintree. They will have to go some to deny State Man, who steps up in trip here but looked a potential Champion Hurdle horse with a quality performance in the County Hurdle last month.
Justin O'Hanlon

Wolverhampton

4.00: Captain Kane

Today's step up in trip might enable Copperplate to leave his underwhelming two-year-old form a long way behind but the most obvious answer is Captain Kane, who doesn't look harshly treated by a 3lb rise for this month's course-and-distance win and is now bidding to complete a hat-trick. Cicely and Gurkhali Warrior should also feature.
