Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's four meetings

Friday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Doncaster

1.45: Mackenberg

Unbeaten after four starts over fences, Mackenberg has his latest 3lb rise offset by Theo Gillard's useful claim here and may not have reached his ceiling yet. Nocte Volatus also has a progressive profile but his fitness needs to be taken on trust today. Barton Knoll needs to bounce back quickly from a lacklustre run three weeks ago but can't be ruled out in his attempt to land this prize for the third year running.

6.00 Lokada

Plenty have bits and pieces of chances here. Speedy sorts No Speed Limit and Betrayed ran well over 6f here last week and the drop back to 5f should suit both of them. The unexposed Lokada appreciated the trip and the surface when winning a maiden here three weeks ago and has more to offer. She could take the beating.

Ffos Las

2.05: File Illico

An interesting race in which the vote goes to File Illico, who made it 4-7 over fences when completing a double at Chepstow in April and is open to more progress back up in trip on his return. The very lightly raced bumper/hurdle winner Marco Island is feared most, although Dan Skelton's dual hurdle winner Real Stone also needs a close look on his handicap/chase debut. Moonlighter could be dangerous if he can take another step back in the right direction, while the other one on the shortlist is the ex-Irish Song Of Earth.

Newbury

2.30: Paint The Dream

Beakstown is effectively 2lb lower than when a very creditable fourth in last month's Old Roan at Aintree but preference is for topweight Paint The Dream, who is very well suited by this C&D and returns here after giving a good account of himself against some high-class chasers in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby. The Widdow Maker was a shade disappointing on his seasonal debut but may still have potential and is next on the list.
