Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings

Tuesday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Carlisle

6.50: Chinese Spirit

Most of these are usually ridden with restraint and there's a chance the race could become tactical, but Chinese Spirit's claims are still persuasive after an excellent second over 1m1f here last week. The main threat could come from Desert Land who made a winning start for Keith Dalgleish 11 days ago, although Thunderhill is still low mileage and may have more to offer and Mr Coco Bean has become well handicapped.
Richard O'Brien

Chepstow

2.25: Peachey Carnehan

Provided the ground doesn't dry out too much Bama Lama (second choice) would have to be considered on current form, while Quarter Blue is respected down at this level having undergone wind surgery since last seen. However, the vote goes to Peachey Carnehan, who is favoured by the race conditions and has been running well enough this year to suggest a race like this is well within his grasp. Epeius looks best of the others.
David Bellingham

Epsom

4.55: Bear To Dream

Some are unexposed but this could be a very weak race and, unless the betting strongly suggests otherwise, calculations are dominated by the dual Brighton scorer Bear To Dream and July's course-and-distance winner Whistledown.

Newton Abbot

7.40: Castle Quarter

This can go to Castle Quarter. He has run well in both his handicaps as a hurdler and the reapplied cheekpieces helped him on the Flat. Gerard Mentor has the ability to bustle him up should his new headgear have a positive effect. Karannelle and Colonel Lesley can also make their presence felt.
Alistair Jones

Ripon

4.45: Purple Reign

Not as competitive as the numbers suggest. Infiniti (second choice) saw her winning run ended when runner-up at Doncaster, but seems sure to have a say with Prophesise not discounted now the cheekpieces go back on. The progressive Purple Reign looks the way to go here, though, on the back of his excellent Ffos Las third, with the step up to 2m also a plus.
