Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings
Selections from Chelmsford, Newcastle, Taunton, Tramore and Warwick
Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team
Chelmsford
6.30: Sword Exceed
The Tron has become very expensive to follow and is drawn wide in first-time headgear, while San Juan and Hope Springs will need to settle better than has often been the case now up from 5f. Dark Design has to prove he has the toe for this trip round here, having never run in a sprint in Ireland, which leaves the well-handicapped Sword Exceed(nap) looking the way to go after a luckless run last time.
Graham Wheldon
Newcastle
1.45: Dragonfruit
Most of these have something to prove but Dragonfruit(nap) has won two of his five chase starts and he found more progress when runner-up in a Class 3 event at Ayr last month. He's only 1lb higher today and drops back in grade. The main danger is course specialist Ascot De Bruyere, who is versatile trip-wise and is back on his last winning mark.
David Moon
Taunton
3.10: Nickolson
There were only two finishers when Nickolson(nap) was second on last month's chasing debut at Warwick but that was a very good race and he pushed a useful rival all the way to the line. He moves back into a handicap off an unchanged mark here and gets the vote. Glajou ran okay over hurdles here on his seasonal reappearance and has good claims if judged on his third to Master Work in this race last year but the biggest threat to the selection could be Quoi De Neuf, who lurks on a dangerous mark.
Chris Wilson
Tramore
3.15: Echoes Of Family
Even if there are flattering aspects to her Down Royal second Echoes Of Family (nap) has an obvious chance in this grade on overall form in recent months. Springfield Lodge warmed up for this with a recent hurdles run and should be competitive. Arctic Ambition goes chasing for the first time off a mark that gives him a realistic chance.
Alan Sweetman
Warwick
3.00: Pemberley
Not only did Pemberley(nap) chase home a progressive horse at Lingfield but there was some depth to that race and he can go one better here. Jerminnie Green will be popular after her no-nonsense display at Chepstow but don't rule out That's The Badger, who made the frame over hurdles and was perhaps in the process of showing improved form until tipping up on his chase debut.
