Nap of the day: best horse racing tips for the day's five meetings

Thursday tips for Newmarket, Perth, Pontefract, Listowel and Wolverhampton

Thursday's best bets from the Racing Post's unbeatable Spotlights team

Newmarket

2.45: Trident

French raider Trident is the one to beat having kept on well for second in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville last time. Ribhi is an interesting opponent however, as he may have been in the mix in a Listed race at Doncaster recently but for being short of room. The fast-improving Modern Games readily won a nursery at the same meeting and is another who can go well.
Ben Hutton

Perth

4.15: Uncle Henry

Go Fox gained his breakthrough hurdle success over this C&D 18 days ago and is respected but slight preference is for Uncle Henry, who was travelling menacingly well just behind the leaders before falling at the third-last flight at Cork last month. My Macho Man ruined his chance by jumping poorly here on his handicap debut in June but his earlier Kelso third was a very promising effort.

Pontefract

2.55: Tiger Beetle

Bowland Park could easily still be a handicapper on the up but he's yet to prove himself at this trip on the likely fast ground, so he's opposed with fellow 3yo Tiger Beetle. Time has shown that Sir Michael Stoute's colt came up against some good horses in maiden and novice events at the start of the summer so an opening mark of 81 does not look beyond him on his return from a break.
Andrew Sheret

Listowel

1.40: Bienvenue

An excellent fourth when thrown in at the deep-end in a valuable sales race at the Curragh, Bienvenue sets a good standard here. She should be too strong for the 75-rated Nawraq, whose relative experience is an asset. Paddy Twomey's newcomer French Claim and Jessica Harrington's twice-raced Supagirl are place possibilities.
Alan Sweetman

Wolverhampton

8.30: Diamond Bay

In-form topweight Hashtagmetoo is firmly in the picture now dropping back in trip and Just Jacob should also be seen in a better light now he has another go over 1m4f. However there was a lot to like about the recent Kempton win of Diamond Bay and Tom Ward's progressive sort is taken to defy a 6lb penalty and complete his hat-trick.
