Musselburgh Placepot tips: Graeme Rodway with an affordable perm over the jumps

The ground will be really testing at Lingfield and that puts me off playing the Placepot at the track. There are fewer runners at Musselburgh, but at least the ground won’t be too bad.

Impressive Catterick bumper winner River Walk shaped like a class act when overcoming greenness for that debut success and he should be hard to beat on his hurdles debut. He rates a banker in the 2m4f maiden hurdle (12.15).

The 1m7½f mares’ handicap hurdle (12.45) looks tricky, but Smart Lass has recorded her two highest RPRs over course and distance and could go well. Gemologist looks next best.

Only six are declared for the 2m4½f novice handicap chase (1.15), so only two places are on offer. Away At Dawn ran well when second at Wetherby last time and the longer trip might suit. Bank on him.

The following 3m conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle (1.45) is wide open. Pure Surf could go well in the combination of first-time cheekpieces and tongue-strap. Fraterculus is next best.

Somewhat Cloudy will enjoy the return to further in the 2m4f handicap hurdle (2.15). She didn’t look at home over 2m at Hexham last time and rates banker material if all eight run.

There are several consistent types in the 3m handicap chase (2.45) and, with nine declared, I’m happy to go with another banker in unexposed chaser Six One Nine.
