Musselburgh Placepot picks: Graeme Rodway with his fancies for the sole fixture

With lots of small fields at Musselburgh the Placepot may pay well if there is an upset or two.

The opening 1m1f apprentice handicap (1.50) is wide open and it might be a race to take on likely hotpot Shahnaz. Sparkle In His Eye and Unashamed are the two who caught my eye.

Lady Lavina will probably head the market in the following 7f maiden (2.25), but I’m not convinced she wants to go up from six furlongs. It’s worth opposing her with Fomo and Sweet Fortune.

The 7f handicap (3.00) is a race where I could see any result bar one – Aikido. With that in mind, it’s worth opposing likely favourite Baileys Liberty with Reputation and Celestial Star.

The 7f classified stakes (3.35) is another open race. Bellevue Lad is a course-and-distance winner who ran well at Catterick last time and Bobby Shaftoe might improve for blinkers.

The winner will be needed in the following 5f nursery (4.10) and it looks like a match between Explicit and Star Of Lady M. Put both in and hope Jungle Time doesn’t upset them.

My best bet of the day runs in the last leg, the 5f handicap (4.45), so bank on Primo’s Comet.
