Mullins bankers could open the way for a nice Naas dividend
The opening juvenile maiden hurdle (1.10) is an interesting affair on a competitive card. There is no more fascinating newcomer than the Gordon Elliott-trained Battle Of Wills, who was a decent Flat handicapper in Britain for James Tate.
He won't need to be a world-beater to win but it would also be wise to put in Millswyn, who should improve a great deal for his Leopardstown debut, and Thurles runner-up Pepper'n Salt.
The Limestone Lad Hurdle (1.40) should be all about the hat-trick seeking Stormy Ireland and she rates a confident banker selection. On another day, the feature Grade 3 novice chase (2.10) might also have seen Carefully Selected as a banker, but it might be worth putting Ronald Pump in there as well. He came back from his lacklustre effort in the Drinmore with a fine effort in the Pertemps qualifier at Leopardstown and should not be underestimated.
The second banker of the day is another Willie Mullins-trained runner in the maiden hurdle (2.40), where it is hard to get away from The Big Getaway. He lost all momentum when making a bad mistake at the last when in front at Leopardstown and this looks a more straightforward task.
The first of the competitive handicaps is the 2m hurdle (3.10), a wide-open contest in which there are five recommendations. Top-weight Mister Eddman comes here in good form after winning at Punchestown and the ground should suit. Like An Open Book is a good mare on her day and looked likely to get involved when coming down two out at Thurles last time. Morning Skye showed plenty on her stable debut at Thurles in November and there might be enough improvement in him to get involved here. A Different World has showed ability in maiden hurdles and is an interesting handicap debutant, while the consistent veteran Youngnedofthehill will go close based on his run at Leopardstown behind Dalton Highway.
The novice handicap chase (3.40) is not easy to solve either. Top-weight Caravation is the class act and bids to follow up her novice chase win here three weeks ago. Best Behavior was successful on his handicap chase debut at Leopardstown over Christmas and should not be far away. Stones And Roses had excuses for a poor effort at Limerick last month and his previous form would give him solid claims, while Uaintseenothingyet did not run badly at Cork after 10 months off and could be well capable off this mark.
