Winning this in successive years has proved difficult with just the 170-rated Bonanza Boy achieving the double in 1989. Elegant Escape is a high-class gelding, whose third place in the Ladbrokes Trophy off this mark gives him every chance. He has only 4lb more to carry this year which is interesting when you consider that Bonanza Boy had 24lb extra for his second success.

Yala Enki wasn’t able to hold Elegant Escape from three out last year when conceding 3lb. He hasn’t had his ground since, but he was over 25 lengths behind Elegant Escape on his reappearance at Newbury and as this race had already closed by then they are on the same terms.
