Stellar Surprise looked quite a useful prospect when a ready and well backed winner on her debut at Chepstow, so it was disappointing to see this Racing Post Trophy entry put in such a tame display when again well supported at Newbury.

Clearly that Group 1 entry is wishful thinking, but to make it in the first place her shrewd connections must have considered her a good deal better than a mark of 76 and, looking back at that Newbury contest I, doubt we saw anything like the best of Stuart Williams' filly.

Although there were only eight runners, they still managed to split into groups of five and three and Stellar Surprise and the pair who raced with her finished sixth, seventh and eighth.
