McConnell juveniles look set to fulfil their promise in 2020

Trainer: John McConnell
6th, 7f two-year-old maiden, Dundalk, December 20
The final meeting of the year at Dundalk featured two divisions of a juvenile maiden, and even with all the jumping action over Christmas, the performances of a pair of John McConnell two-year-olds have to be included.

This son of Clodovil was having his second run in the first division. From the off, his rider attempted to restrain him but he was very headstrong and difficult to steer. He also hung right off the home bend and ended up coming widest on the track. When he straightened up, though, and was asked for an effort, he responded and managed to pass a good number of his opponents.

His inexperience does make one give him the benefit of the doubt for the way he raced, he looks to have a bit of raw ability and is interesting. He also looks a prime candidate to be gelded before he next appears.

The second McConnell juvenile to feature this week, this son of Bungle Inthejungle finished a creditable fourth in the second and probably stronger division of this maiden on debut.
