Longchamp Placepot tips: Tom Segal is out to crack the Arc card in France
It might not be the classiest Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (3.05) at Longchamp, but it is certainly one of the most competitive, and no doubt it will make or break the Placepot.
Alpinista is extremely solid and is bound to run well, so she goes in the perm along with Al Hakeem, who looks certain to put up a career-best by quite some margin.
The Prix de l'Abbaye (4.25) is usually dominated by those drawn low but not many of them bar Teresa Mendoza make much appeal. Consequently, it wouldn't surprise me if something drawn higher got involved and Castle Star comes here fresh and likes soft ground.
Kinross can be relied on to hit the frame in the Qatar Prix de la Foret (5.00) on ground he won't mind, while in order to keep the perm manageable, I think the improving Tigrais can be banked on in the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1.15).
Everyone seems to think that a high draw is a big negative on the round track but it's clearly not impossible to win from out wide. The last two winners of the Prix de l'Opera (3.50) have come from stall 14, so being drawn in 13 shouldn't be a problem for Nashwa. The worry is the ground, but she's from a family that likes plenty of give underfoot so she should be all right.
The improving Trevaunance could be the biggest danger as she might be the only pace in the race.
Finally, Habana has looked right out of the top drawer in Germany and could surprise some more high-profile fillies in the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac (1.50). Blue Rose Cen was impressive over course and distance last time and should be included too.
