Lilly The Lioness can roar again for Power

On the opening day of Galway's September fixture, Kilkenny trainer Garrett Power can achieve a notable feat by saddling Lilly The Lioness (7.05) to a fourth consecutive victory.

The nine-year-old mare kicked off the sequence with a handicap chase win at Wexford in June and then cashed in on a lenient Flat mark at Tipperary when comfortably beating Ondamoura, who reopposes today, by three and a half lengths. The mare completed the hat-trick with a win over fences at Killarney and now reverts to the Flat with the experienced Gary Halpin taking the mount in this apprentice handicap.

Having recorded her three wins in under a month, Lilly The Lioness has been given ample time to recover and the 10lb hike in the weights she incurred for winning at Tipperary does not seem excessive. Also in her favour is the fact she won a handicap hurdle here at the 2015 festival. The possibility of deteriorating ground is perhaps the main worry, since she has never won on anything worse than yielding.
