Kelso Placepot picks: Tom Segal with two bankers on the Sunday perm
The Placepot at Kelso is not going to be easily cracked, with some tricky handicaps on the card. In order to keep the outlay as small as possible it might be worth banking on Dragonfruitin the 2m5½f handicap chase (1.30).
The eight-year-old would have gone close but for a bad mistake two out at Sedgefield last time and the application of a visor could sharpen him up.
The other banker on the card is Traprain Lawin the novice hurdle (2.00). He's run well three times over course and distance and the soft ground won't hinder him one bit.
I think at least two selections will be needed in the other races, even the opening contest (12.30), in which form is thin on the ground. The debutant Moonlight Monarchhas a pedigree to suggest he should have the ability to win races like this, while Point Franklin showed some ability in his two bumpers.
Stainsby Girl was disappointing at Haydock last time but she is unbeaten over this course and distance and is worth another chance back at Kelso (2.30). She does have to bounce back to form, though, so it is safest to throw in the easy Ayr winner Beat Box too.
Atlantic Dancer, who finished behind Beat Box at Ayr, looks to have a good chance earlier on the card in a weak 2m handicap hurdle (1.00). Its A Midnight hasn't shown too much to date but if the wind operation has done the trick, she can go well from her lowly mark as well.
Big River has won the Chairman's Cup (3.00) for the last two years and has to go in the Placepot despite a couple of moderate efforts so far this season. If he's not the force of old then bottomweight Just Don't Know might be the one to take advantage.
