Keith Melrose spies an affordable route to the Market Rasen Placepot

As a long-standing maiden Sorbet might not be favourite for the opener (1.10), but she has a large body of work behind her so is the natural Placepot selection in the opener, which has four realistic contenders and three places to aim at.

Leg two (1.40) has a similar look, with a little less depth and so Royal Pretender is likely more of a straight-bat selection.

That frees us lines for the handicap hurdle and trappy little chases. Ernesto and Diamond Rose do the job in the former (2.10).

In the 2.40, Lickpenny Larry is a known quantity at this level and, modest course record aside, can normally be relied upon so far as moderate handicap chasers go. Back him up with the chancier Valseur Du Granval, who is extremely well treated and has offered glimmers this season.

Aye Aye Charlie is not the most reliable for win purposes, but is a better place prospect so makes the cut in the 3.10. Bootlegger will handle conditions no problem and makes sense as a solid support option.

For the final leg (3.40), First Class Return can be opposed with Zee Man, who has a bit of untapped potential. He will need to get round, but note that his latest F was not entirely his own fault.
