Britain's sole jumps meeting on Wednesday comes from Musselburgh, where in early November the ground can still be fairly reliable. The working assumption, from a local who has no designs whatsoever on Harriet Graham's job as clerk of the course, is that the sandy links soil responds unusually well to rain. The likelihood is that the east of Scotland being much drier than the west is also a significant factor.
