Kachy can prove tricky to catch back at minimum trip

James Pyman with his ones to watch

Mazyoun
Trainer: Hugo Palmer
4th, Sandown, July 8
The first two home in this 7f handicap were prominent throughout. Mazyoun never threatened the winner, but having started slowly from a wide draw, he made up a lot of ground in the last two furlongs to leave the impression he is capable of winning a big handicap when the pace is sufficiently strong to suit the come-from-behind horses.

Ripoll
Sylvester Kirk
9th, Sandown, July 8
The four-year-old is 0-12 on turf, compared to four wins from 14 runs on the all-weather, but on this evidence he is capable of winning turf races. He seems to be most effective when ridden patiently and delivered with a late challenge and when attempting to weave through the pack in the closing stages of this mile handicap he was short of room, which cost him a couple of lengths. With a clear run he wouldn’t have won, but he seems to be at the top of his game and looks a suitable type for a handicap at Glorious Goodwood.

The Armed Man
Chris Fairhurst
6th, Haydock, July 8
This was the first time in six runs that this sprinter failed to finish in the first two but expect him to bounce back quickly. He ran much better than the bare form suggests as this race appeared to be run at a frenetic pace that compromised those who were prominent in the early stages. The Armed Man tracked the leaders until hitting the front 2f out but was swamped close home by horses who were patiently ridden.
