Jim McGrath has three fancies on Saturday's competitive Sha Tin card
Band Of Brothers
8.05 Sha Tin
2pts win
Joyful Fortune
8.35 Sha Tin
2pts win
Beauty Angel
9.45 Sha Tin
2pts win
Neil Callan can team up again with in-form trainer Paul O’Sullivan to land the feature Panasonic Cup (8.05) with progressive Band Of Brothers at Sha Tin.
Callan, a regular in Hong Kong for much of the past decade, boosted his tally to seven winners for the season when notching a double for O’Sullivan at Happy Valley on Wednesday – and the pair can come up trumps again in this 7f Class 1 handicap.
O’Sullivan, who also has good chances in other races on the ten-race card, has done an exceptional job developing Band Of Brothers into a useful type. He has progressed him 44lb up the handicap, winning in all grades, with an impressive six wins from 16 races.
Band Of Brothers, a son of July Cup winner Sakhee’s Secret, loves Sha Tin and he also prefers being drawn on the outside, where he can use his powerful, long stride. His two runs this season were over distances far too short yet he ran cracking races in both.
Drawn wide in nine, expect him to arrive late to register his first win in Class 1 company.
Star Shine, in first-time blinkers, should benefit from the drop back in trip from 1m1f, and will also appreciate having Joao Moreira aboard for the first time. He is the main danger.
Others to include in multiples are Lucky Express, who won first time up this season to justify the big reputation he earned in Melbourne before export, and the versatile Buddies, whose rise through the ranks may not have ended yet.
Joyful Fortune can give Zac Purton another winner in the Class 3 5f handicap (8.35), in which he faces 13 rivals. The four-year-old received a massive 14lb hike in the handicap for his debut success over course and distance in a lower grade in July, but he deserved it.
This is a strong field but he should be able to see them all off. Kurpany, who has joined Caspar Fownes from John Moore, has potential and appears next best.
In the finale it may pay to side with Moreira and Tony Cruz, who combine with Beauty Angel. The four-year-old bids for a fourth consecutive win when contesting the Class 3 1m1f handicap (9.45). From an Aga Khan family, Beauty Angel stays all day.
