Mud-lover looks primed to land third in of the year

Credit: Matt Cardy

No. 5

3.05 Ayr
1pt win at 10-1Rioja Day has not won that often in his career (just 5-58 on the Flat an 0-17 over hurdles) but he has been in pretty decent nick this year, scoring over 7f here in June and then winning over an extended mile at Hamilton in August.

Both those wins came off a mark just 2lb lower than he is now and he probably did well not to get shunted up a pound or two when second to Cliff Bay over course and distance nine days ago.

He has run here enough times, but does tend to show most of his best form at Ayr and is a three-time course winner, including on soft ground. He's also won on heavy, so conditions, which will be very testing, will suit.
