Packing Treadmill is set to continue his rapid rise through the ranks by taking the most interesting contest on Sha Tin's ten-race card, the Class 3 6f handicap (10.10), despite strong opposition.
The three-year-old put himself in the 'exciting' bracket when hacking up over course and distance last time, with the official winning margin (two and a half lengths) hardly a true indication of his superiority.
The handicapper reacted predictably by putting him up 10lb and promoting him a grade, but on all evidence so far – he is two from two – that won't stop him. His draw (11) could have been better, but his key rival Buzzinga (12) is equally inconvenienced.
Zac Purton, level with rival Joao Moreira in the championship (98 wins each), remains aboard Packing Treadmill, who may find Alexis Badel's mount Brilliant Way as his main danger, with the smart Voyage Bubble also in the mix.
Moreira has excellent prospects aboard Running Glory, who steps up in distance in the Class 3 handicap (9.35) over 1m1f, with which he should cope quite comfortably on pedigree. He is a son of the classy miler Kermadec (by Teofilo) out of a Dubawi mare.
Running Glory looked to have something up his sleeve when running strongly through the line in his win over a mile last start, giving the impression that an extra furlong would not trouble him. With a favourable inside draw (3), he should enjoy the run of the race.
The Danny Shum-trained Copartner Elites finished powerfully for a good second to stablemate Rise Brethren in a 1m2f handicap on his most recent outing. In Britain, he won two of his seven starts and was fifth in the Britannia at Royal Ascot for Roger Charlton and he looks to have acclimatised quickly.
The usual competitive finale, the Class 2 7f handicap (10.45), gives Captain Win another opportunity with a light weight to notch his second win in Hong Kong. Frustratingly, he has finished second in three of his last four starts, but another inside draw (4) puts him in with a great chance.
Ima Single Man contested all three legs of the four-year-old triple crown, acquitting himself respectably though clearly out of his depth. Freshened up, back in handicap company, he can figure in the placings.
