'He's right in the mix' - Protektorat must be Britain’s best Gold Cup hope

I hadn’t set foot on a racecourse in the best part of three years before Sandown’s Tingle Creek meeting on Saturday and I experienced a mixed day on the track.

I was frustrated by how bitterly cold it was and the fast food operation I queued up at for around 25 minutes running out of plant-based burgers. No justice for the vegan customer.

However, I took plenty of positives from the afternoon. One of the best sights of the day, aside from realising at one point my friends and I were standing in a queue behind comedian Dapper Laughs, was Dan Skelton and his team going crazy in the parade ring after Protektorat won the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree.
