'He has the technique to go to the top' - which hurdler impressed Tom Segal?

It sounds ridiculous because it's called jump racing after all, but actual jumping technique is rarely discussed.

The best example of an excellent jumper was Istabraq, who was a pretty average stayer on the Flat but put a set of hurdles in front of him and he was virtually unbeatable.

Of course he improved physically and athletically as he got older – he obviously developed into a much better horse than the one he was as a three-year-old for John Gosden – but it was his jumping that set him apart from nearly all other hurdlers, not that he could run faster as well.
