Haydock Placepot picks: Graeme Rodway provides his perm for the jumps meeting

There is a lot of soft-ground form on show at Haydock and drying conditions should favour those who like to hear their hooves rattle. That might help set the Placepot dividend up well.

The opening 1m7½f maiden hurdle (1.00) looks like a match between consistent pair Cartonne and Parisencore. Slight preference is for Parisencore, who handles this going.

The 2m4f novice handicap chase (1.35) is a trappy race. Brief Ambition jumped well when winning at Kempton and likes decent ground. He goes in along with the lightly raced Ubetya.

Just two places will be on offer in the 2m3f handicap hurdle (2.10). L'Incorrigible is one of my best bets of the day and must go in, alongside the good-ground lover East Street.

Tim Pat has an obvious chance in the 3m4½f handicap chase (2.45), but I also fancy Encounter A Giant to run a big race at a better price. Put both in and hope for the upset.

The winner is needed in the 3m½f mares' novice hurdle (3.20) and only two look capable of scoring. Put both Letthetruthbeknown and Nora The Xplorer in and one should do the job.

The 3m½f handicap hurdle (3.55) is another small field where just two places are on offer. Godrevy Point handles good ground, is consistent and rates a banker to keep the perm down.
