1pt each-waySOMETIMES you can guarantee how bookmakers are going to bet on a race even if you’re fairly confident the prices will be wrong and that’s the case with the Jumeirah Hotels And Resorts December Handicap Hurdle (2.20) at Sandown.

It didn’t take a genius to work out Greatwood Hurdle fifth and seventh William H Bonney and Jenkins would be at the head of the market and while there’s no major quibble with the former, Jenkins has palpably done nothing to earn his place in the betting and is arguably the worst handicapped horse in the field.

Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old has been a talking horse all his life, but couldn’t jump as a novice and there was very little promise in his Cheltenham run given he was beaten little past halfway, never looked like getting involved and was the best part of nine lengths behind William H Bonney, who at least travelled well and looked likely to play a bigger part for a while.
