Growl looks something to shout about at tasty 11-1
The times were extremely quick on the July course at Newmarket yesterday and, while part of that was due to the wind, the ground was very fast and it was clear that it was difficult to come from behind. The clerk of the course is going to water overnight and the wind is unlikely to be the same, so I doubt there will be any track records, but fast-ground horses are still going to be the order of the day.
The bet365 Bunbury Cup (5.10) looks really difficult, especially because the race is full of exposed handicappers and nothing appears to have anything in hand.
The one exception might be Growl for Richard Fahey, who has won the last two runnings of the Bunbury Cup. He has to prove he stays 7f but Growl has always looked like he needs the trip and he has been in sensational form of late.
1pt win at 11-1 with Betway (10-1 generally)
Yes it was soft ground when he beat a really good field easily at Windsor last time, but he had won on fast ground before that and I don’t think ground conditions bother him. He was always well regarded when trained by Brian Meehan and had form against the likes of Limato, so I doubt very much he has reached anything like the limit of his potential just yet.
