It was a shame to read about Kieren Fallon's troubles. He had a controversial career but when he was at his best no-one could get more from a horse.

Fallon won tons of top races but could be a fierce competitor right down to a seller and the ride of his I remember more than any other came at that lowly level in August 2003.

It was a 2m race at Catterick and Fallon's mount was Branston Nell. Rated just 53, she looked a hopeless cause when being driven along for much of the final circuit, but Fallon somehow managed to get her up on the line for a short-head success.
