Gingili finally puts his best foot forward

James Best deserves plenty of credit for persevering on the initially reluctant Gingili in the 2m7f handicap hurdle. Despite being one of the first off the bridle and trading at 50 in running on Betfair, his mount cracked the opposition up the home straight, two who were matched at odds-on.

Likewise Nick Scholfield looked in big trouble when Old Guard made a juddering error four out in the beginners' chase at Exeter, prompting leader Imperial Presence to be backed down to 1.05, but Old Guard rallied to get up close home after trading at 25.

Newcomer Shutter Speed betrayed any signs of inexperience when outbattling Song Master in the mile fillies' maiden at Yarmouth after being done at 19. The runner-up was backed at 1.19.
