1pt winMauritian riding star Karis Teetan finally came up trumps at Sha Tin last Sunday, booting home an overdue treble which cemented his new relationship with trainer Tony Cruz.
Youthful jockey talent combining with a Hong Kong turf legend such as Cruz can only boost Teetan’s prospects of challenging Zac Purton for the title. But it is still early doors.
Purton followers are taking at least a point under the odds about nearly all his mounts, but the upside is that the determined Aussie is as keen as ever and riding very well.
I can see him punching one home at Happy Valley on Wednesday for loyal supporter Caspar Fownes in the shape of Friends Of Ka Ying (1.15), who has finished runner-up on each of his last three starts.
His most recent second came at Sha Tin only last Sunday and if he displays the same determination which saw him run Circuit Number Two to a short head then he can finally end his frustrating sequence of minor placings.
Purton also has excellent prospects of winning later in the card aboard Eighty Eighty (3.15), a ride he inherited from Joao Moreira, his former arch rival who is now ensconced in Tokyo.
For a little value, save something for Limitless (3.50) in the lucky last.
This Fownes-trained five-year-old, the mount of Douglas Whyte, formerly raced in the UK as Defrocked.
Trained by Jamie Osborne for stalwart owners Michael Buckley and Michael Watt, Limitless (as Defrocked) landed the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot and was then snapped up to race in Hong Kong.
He found his right mark when winning for Fownes in July and will find this to his liking.
