French racing tips: Scott Burton has two selections to follow at Vichy

Orangefield
12.50 Vichy
1pt each-way

Princesse Ilia
4.20 Vichy
1pt win

You may or may not be a form student who watches plenty of video replays, but if you make one trip to the archive it should be to watch the Prix de Roissy at Chantilly on May 13.

That race features eight of the 16 runners who line up in the feature Quinte handicap at Vichy, the Prix d'Orry (12.50), including every horse that filled the places between second and eighth that day.

All are entitled to strip fitter for what was a first run since the restart and there will be plenty of support for the Alex Pantall trio, given how nearly all of his horses seem to take a step forward for their comeback.

Only eighth past the post on that occasion was Orangefield, though that only tells half the story given he travelled well up the rail through the first part of the race before finding himself with no room to race.

Sebastien Maillot didn't force the issue and Orangefield is a horse who, when he runs well, tends to do almost everything on the bridle, as was the case when dominating a claimer at Deauville last October on what was his most recent start at five furlongs.

The booking of Maxime Guyon looks another positive and it would be no surprise to see Orangefield reverse placings with many of those that finished in front of him at Chantilly.

Listed-placed last time out, Air De Valse looks a big danger if handling this drop in trip and is still 4lb lower than when winning a 6f handicap at Maisons-Laffitte in the autumn.

It is probably quite frustrating for trainer Andrea Marcialis to have taken Anobar to a rating of 93 and watch her place at Listed level without actually getting a win along the way.

He drops her back into maiden company in the Prix de la Prairie (4.20) and, on what she has achieved to date, French punters will probably decide she is the nearest thing to a certainty on the card.

Perhaps was a well-backed favourite on debut at Saint-Cloud but, having been rushed to the front from an outside draw, completely subsided in the straight.

She clearly shows Francis Graffard plenty in the mornings and is given a quick chance to atone just a fortnight later.

Arguably more reliable than either though isPrincesse Ilia, who made a really taking impression on debut at Chantilly in February when chasing home Porcelaine, whose subsequent exploits in Listed and Group 3 company have advertised the strength of the form.
