Firmount Gent can make amends for throwing away Plumpton contest

THECLOCKISTICKING (1.10) has plenty of potential an can defy a 6lb penalty for Stuart Edmunds.

The son of Gamut was placed in two 3m Irish points in the spring before a sound second on his debut under rules in a Market Rasen bumper in September behind Simply The Betts.

On his latest start, he travelled well through his hurdling debut at Fakenham last month and came clear quite impressively from the second-last. He is fancied to follow up.

FIRMOUNT GENT (1.40) looked likely to win when blundering and unseating his rider Harry Skelton at the last at Plumpton last week but can gain compensation here.

Dan Skelton’s 11-year-old son of Beneficial races off the same mark and should win if avoiding similar errors.

CHELTENAM DE VAIGE (3.10) was making his first start for Fergal O’Brien when finishing a close second over 2m on good to soft at Plumpton last month and can go one better.

The handicapper has seen fit to raise him 4lb for that effort, but the return to a longer trip, which should suit, makes up for that.

Worcester

Philip Hobbs is in better form now than when ROLLING DYLAN (1.30) made his chasing debut here last month.

The six-year-old was a well-beaten fifth over 2m7f on good ground that day, but he is expected to prove better than a 132-rated horse over fences, a mark achieved with a couple of close seconds last season after winning his maiden at Uttoxeter on soft.

A bit more cut in the ground will help, as should the drop to 2m4f.

The in-form Nigel Twiston-Davies has a strong strike-rate on this course and ARTHUR’S GIFT (2.30) can enhance that record.

The six-year-old son of Presenting improved markedly to finish a close second of ten over this course and distance on his sixth start last month and the handicapper saw fit to raise him 6lb.

That is of little concern in the midst of an upward curve, though, especially with the capable 7lb claiming jockey Tom Humphries taking over in the saddle.

Wolverhampton

The Antony Brittain-trained GREY DESTINY (2.10) regularly misses the break, but that hasn’t stopped him going close in two of his last three starts.

Most recently, he powered home over this course and distance two weeks ago but couldn’t quite match the in-form favourite Sentinel.

There is nothing with that rival’s potential in opposition here and a repeat performance should be good enough to see him come home on top.

Lingfield

CRIEVEHILL (2.50) is entitled to improve for his chasing debut last time and can make the most of an easier opportunity.

The five-year-old ran well behind Neon Wolf over a similar trip at Haydock over hurdles in January having previously won at this track.

He performed respectably at Carlisle last month, but that was his reappearance so he ought to come on for the run and the experience. He has also been dropped 3lb by the handicapper.
