Fanshawe could have first two-year-old winner of the season with Penpal

With York in the rear-view mirror, the season is starting to head towards autumn, which means some big juvenile highlights. The stars of this season and beyond will start to come to the fore and there is a lot to look forward to. The column is still hitting the back of the net, with Impressor (13-8) and Jovial (10-11) winners on their next outings.

Penpal
Kempton, August 14, 3rd

James Fanshawe has only had two juvenile runners so far this season, with Penpal being one of them. She quickened nicely two furlongs out to give chase to the two leaders, but lacked that bit of extra pace late on.

This was still a very promising effort and she should get further in time. The front three were clear and she should find a winning opportunity soon.

Pocket Square
Yarmouth, August 20, 3rd

This looked a fair novice on paper, and Pocket Square shaped with a good deal of promise on her debut for Roger Charlton.

Pocket Square closed steadily to the line under hands and heels riding and there should be plenty more to come when next seen.

Internationaltiger
Leicester, August 22, 5th

In this big-field novice the eye was drawn to Internationaltiger, who travelled nicely on the bridle for Jack Garritty.

When push came to shove the colt still looked in need of the experience, but there were definite signs of promise. He may need another run to get a mark, but is heading in the right direction.

Bill The Butcher
Windsor, August 24, 5th

This colt really needed his debut, doing a fair few things wrong, but still possessing enough ability to take fifth.

He was keen early, then was pretty green when asked for an effort by Martin Dwyer, hanging in behind runners. Bill The Butcher does hold some lofty entries, so better could be expected on his next couple of outings.

Trainer to note

Roger Charlton is starting to unleash his juvenile crop, and is doing well this month with three two-year-old winners from 13 runners. The yard as whole is in good form, and Charlton often has some above-average juveniles worth following.
