Third Time Lucky has been running respectably in some hot all-weather contests this winter but will be happier back on turf and is my idea of the Betway Lincoln winner at Doncaster on Saturday.

The Richard Fahey-trained five-year-old has form figures of 111145 (4-6) in turf handicaps on straight tracks (or in small fields if racing around a turn), with both defeats from poor draws – he fared second best of the far-side bunch when fourth in last year’s Cambridgeshire and was best of those to race down the centre when fifth of 19 behind Yuften in the Balmoral Handicap on Champions Day.

Fahey will also feel confident about a victory on Sunday’s card as he has a good record in the opening 7f handicap, taking a division in 2011, 2013 and 2014 as well as sending out the narrow runner-up last year.
