Evening Angles: three to note at Lingfield and Stratford based on key stats

Credit: Edward Whitaker

Using the Racing Post's unrivalled bank of stats, we pick out three horses to back tonight based on trainer form, RPRs and, tonight's wild card, an unexposed sort who could improve for the application of first-time blinkers . . .

Trainer form

Gardiners Hill
8.30 Stratford
Angle: David Rees has won with three of his last four runners

David Rees struck with three of his four runners over the past week and clearly has his string in fine form. Gardiners Hill was one of the successful trio and, despite having a hard race, the quick turnaround should not be an issue as he has a good record when turned out quickly after a win. He has a career-high mark to defy under a penalty but the step up in trip will suit and the yard's flying form increases confidence he will launch a bold bid.

Ratings

Biometric
7.15 Lingfield
Angle: 7lb clear on weight-adjusted ratings and sets high standard for newcomers to aim at

The Ralph Beckett-trained Biometric, successful on both starts, and William Haggas's Nahaarr, a winner at Doncaster on debut, represent top yards and set a solid standard so it will be tough for a newcomer to topple them. There's not a great deal between them in the market but there's a case to suggest Biometric should be odds-on as, despite carrying a double penalty, he comes out 7lb clear on weight-adjusted Racing Post Ratings. He has also looked a straightforward sort and tactically versatile, which could be a big advantage in this small field.

Wild card

Chop Chop
8.45 Lingfield
Angle: blinkers could conjure improvement from unexposed sort

Mince won three Listed races and a Group 3 during a distinguished career so it is reasonable to expect her daughter Chop Chop to prove better than a mark of 57 in time. Her handicap debut can be overlooked as it was a messy race in which she met trouble, and she is better judged on her second start when she shaped with promise to finish third. Jason Watson heads to Lingfield from Epsom to take this ride – as well as a 40-1 outsider in the preceding race – and the application of first-time blinkers could bring about improvement.
