A look at the fields for today's three jumps cards in Britain reminds us just how much we need some rain as there is not one double-figure field from 20 races, only five offer each-way betting for three places and three offer no each-way betting at all.

That doesn't mean all the action is uncompetitive, and while Newbury will stage two races with only two and three runners, the rest of the card has stood up fairly well.

The eight-runner bet365 Handicap Chase (2.00) is well contested, with no more than a stone between the top and bottom weights, but the one who is going to stand out to pretty much everyone this morning is surely Generous Ransom on his first start for Philip Hobbs, having moved from Nick Gifford.
