John Moore could be described as the last man standing in Hong Kong racing, certainly of the old guard who have witnessed massive change in their time.

Aussie Moore was part of the scene even before they went professional 47 years ago, and the elder son of Royal Palace’s jockey George Moore has remained a force for decades since.

As amateur rider, professional jockey, assistant trainer and then a multiple champion, Moore has outlasted them all, and at every turn one race above all others has been his objective – the Hong Kong Derby.

Today at Sha Tin, Moore hits the Derby trail again in his quest to win the local Classic an unprecedented seventh time. He saddles Easy Go Easy Win (10.45) with high hopes of another first-up success.

He certainly has the profile of a Derby contender, having finished runner-up last season to Kementari, one of Godolphin’s current stars. That’s solid form.

Easy Go Easy Win makes his reappearance on the back of an eyecatching barrier trial nine days ago.

I was impressed by High Five (9.05) when he won here four weeks ago and, although he has gone up 8lb, that still leaves him on a mark well short of his highest.

Finally, I suggest another crack at Sixty Sixty (10.10), who had good form in France on artificial surfaces.

His most recent run was a beauty when seventh in a similar race here after running wide on the home bend. He looks the value bet of the day stepping up in trip.
