For jumps fans it's hard to escape the buzz of excitement that comes with the knowledge the winter game is about to take centre stage this weekend – especially with the prospect of Cue Card embarking on his eighth season in training.

The fact that he is pushing 11 years old, yet begins the campaign on his highest ever rating of 176 tells you what a legend Cue Card has been for connections.

The day before Cue Card made his racecourse debut in January 2010, our West Country correspondent Andrew King contacted the office to say he wanted to change his nap to Colin Tizzard's newcomer in a Fontwell bumper and, that having happened so very rarely over the years, I took the plunge.
